Nominated for 7 Emmys in its first five periods, Law & Order SVU (Special Victims Unit) continues the achievement of NBC's blockbuster Law & Order franchise. The invention of Law & Order founder Dick Wolf (former writer for hit TV shows such as Hill Street Blues and Miami Vice), Law & Order SVU is filmed on location in New York City. It uses the standard half-police drama/half-courtroom drama format that made its forerunner a wonderful success, yet SVU focuses specifically on sexually based crimes
Law & Order SVU tells the story of the group of committed investigators who benefit the elite group referred to as the Special Victims Unit. Capt. Brian Cragen (Dann Florek) heads up the unit including four standard investigators - Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni), John Munch (Richard Belzer), and Odafin Tutuola (Ice-T). While examining killings, rapes, and other horrible crimes, the investigators often consult with police psychologist Dr. George Huang (B.D. Wong) who gives special insight to the minds of alleged predators. They change their case over to Assistant District Attorney Casey Novak (Diane Neal) who agents deals and prosecutes the cases that set these nefarious criminals behind bars, once the necessary evidence is gathered by the detectives
Regulations & Order SVU DVD includes a number of dramatic episodes like the series premiere "Payback" where a cab lloyd irvin driver is discovered stabbed to death with his genitals stop. When detectives Stabler and Benson examine, they discover that the person is a former soldier in the conflict and that he was a rapist. Benson, a child of rape, is sympathetic to the actions of rape victims, and Stabler should keep her from crossing the line to guard the likely suspects Other significant attacks from Season 1 contain "Sophomore Jinx" in which a college student's murder investigation is blocked by the college when the SVU suspects a s) of the college basketball team, and "The Third Guy" in which an elderly woman is tied up and raped in her apartment, but the investigation takes a unique twist when the initial suspects are satisfied and a new criminal enters the picture
